Definition of Ready AI for Jira

Setup guide

This guide explains how to install and configure Definition of Ready AI for Jira. The product is currently in development, so Marketplace installation links will be added after approval.

1. Prerequisites

  • Jira Cloud site
  • Jira project admin access for project-level settings
  • Permission to install Marketplace apps
  • ProcessLayer Marketplace listing once available

2. Install the app

After the app is listed on Atlassian Marketplace, install it from the Marketplace listing and approve the requested scopes.

The intended Jira scopes are read:jira-work, write:jira-work, read:jira-user, and storage:app. These support issue analysis, approved comments/subtasks, current-user context, and short-lived Forge cache.

3. Open a Jira issue

After installation, open any Jira issue in a configured project. The Definition of Ready AI panel will appear on the issue.

4. Run readiness analysis

Click “Analyze issue” to generate a readiness score, findings, clarifying questions, and work-order draft.

Real Jira issue analysis requires a trial or paid Atlassian Marketplace license. Unlicensed users may see product UI and demo/sample paths, but paid AI generation for real issues is blocked.

5. Configure project rules

Project admins can configure readiness requirements including acceptance criteria, expected behavior, test plan, component, priority, scope boundaries, risk categories, and generated comment behavior.

6. Generate a work order

Use the generated work order to prepare the issue for developers, QA, or AI coding agents.

7. Write back to Jira

If enabled, approved users can add the generated work order as a Jira comment. Advanced workflows may also create conservative clarification subtasks, limited to five at a time and disabled by default.

8. Editions and quotas

  • Standard is intended for individual issue readiness, project settings, generated work orders, approved Jira comments, and audit logs.
  • Advanced is intended for bulk/sprint readiness, custom rules, advanced prompt profiles, CSV/export paths, and higher quotas.

9. Troubleshooting

  • Panel does not appear
  • Missing permissions
  • License required or edition required
  • Quota exceeded
  • Project settings unavailable
  • Issue analysis fails
  • Work order cannot be written
